• 2026-27 Literacy Volunteer Program Application

  • Thank you for your interest in the Literacy Volunteer Program! The Literacy Volunteer Program focuses on supporting young readers in all Wayzata Public Schools elementary schools.

    • The program takes place November–May.
    • Volunteers listen to and support students as they read aloud from books for 20-30 minutes, once a week during the school day.
    • The program supports students in grades K–5. Most of the students are in 3rd or 4th grade.
    • Each student in the program is assigned to one volunteer.
    • Volunteers can read with more than one student each week if they choose.

  • How did you hear about the Literacy Volunteer Program?*
  • Training and Orientation

  • We offer formal literacy trainings and volunteer orientations. We have literacy training sessions scheduled for Tuesday, October 13 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. and Monday, October 19 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Ridgedale Library. This optional training is led by our district's literacy resource teacher and provides lots of helpful tips on how to work with your student.

Volunteer orientations take place at the school sites and are required for new volunteers. These 30-60 minute meetings will be scheduled in October and volunteers will receive invitations after they are assigned to a school.

All volunteers need to complete a background check every three years. You will receive information by email about how to complete your background check prior to starting your volunteer role.

  • If you will attend a literacy training session please RSVP below. These sessions are optional but highly encouraged.*
